Wharton in November 1838 and officially adopted by the Third Congress of the Republic of Texas on January 25, 1839, the iconic "Lone Star Flag" was designed to represent the sovereign republic before Texas joined the United States in 1845.

The Design: The Texas Flag features a vertical blue stripe on the hoist edge taking up one-third of the flag's length. Two equal horizontal stripes finish out the flag emerging from the blue stripe all the way to the fly edge. Centered inside the blue hoist field sits a single "lone" white five-pointed star (a design element so famous that it earned the state its official nickname). In the traditional Texas Flag, the bottom stripe is red, but after the November 3rd Blue-nami and Texas flipping a senate seat, the governorship, and other races from red to blue, we found it fitting to update the flag as well.
