The modern lesbian pride flag, with its distinctive sunset gradient from dark orange through white to dark pink, has become the definitive symbol for lesbian, sapphic, and women-loving-women (WLW) communities worldwide. Created by designer Emily Gwen in 2018, this five-stripe design intentionally moves away from outdated imagery to create an inclusive symbol for all lesbians.

Why This Design Matters: The 2018 lesbian flag represents a fresh start for lesbian visibility. Unlike earlier versions with...problematic origins...Emily Gwen's design was created collaboratively with input from diverse lesbian communities.

The Stripes Explained:

  1. Dark Orange - Gender non-conformity
  2. Orange - Independence & Community
  3. White - Unique relationships to womanhood
  4. Light Pink - Serenity, peace, love & sex
  5. Dark Pink - Femininity

What Makes This Different from Other Lesbian Flags: You may have seen the "lipstick lesbian" flag with a kiss mark or the Labrys flag with the Axe. Those designs have been largely retired but you can learn more about them in my video about the history of Lesbian flags. The 2018 Emily Gwen design (what you're looking at here) was intentionally created as an inclusive alternative that represents ALL lesbians: butch, femme, non-binary lesbians, trans lesbians, and everyone in between.

  • Single-layer flags are printed on the front, so on the reverse side, any text will appear mirrored. If you want it oriented correctly on both sides, select "double-layer" options.

  • It really depends on the environment it is flying in. Direct UV exposure, wind, rain, latitude, and especially hitting things like the brick on a house will shorten your flag's life. Also, dark colors fade first and the fastest. See our care page to make your flag last the longest!

  • We want you to love your flag. If you’re not completely satisfied with your purchase, we offer a 30-day return policy. Simply contact us at orders@flagsforgood.com, and we’ll guide you through the process. Read more here

  • We are a small team with limited shelf space. If a design is popular, we start expanding what sizes we offer of that flag. Let us know if you really want to see more of this design!

  • We ship most things that don't include poles in discreet black eco-mailers. They're made from recovered ocean-bound plastic, so even our packaging does good!

    Anything shipped with a flag pole, garden pole, or large numbers of flags comes in a standard cardboard box.

  • You choose! We offer standard USPS and expedited shipping options at checkout. Standard shipping typically takes 3-5 business days within the continental US, while expedited options are available for faster delivery if you choose to upgrade. We try to get orders in the mail as soon as we can. This could be as fast as the next day or take us a few days during busy times.
